AT HOME WORKOUTS FOR WOMEN

Are you a gym rat or do you prefer to exercise at home?  I work out with out FIT CLUB/CARDIOKICKS group a few times a week but I do love working out at home in the little fitness area in my garage.  It’s a nice mental break for me to plug in a dvd and just lose myself.  I don’t have to worry about being in charge of a class and I can zone out, sweat, challenge myself and when finished, walk a few steps and change out of my sweaty clothes.  It’s great in the early morning when I can roll out of bed, slip into a some sweats and a t-shirt (40 degrees in my garage!) and within 5 minutes, be starting my warm up.  It’s less easy to talk myself out of exercising when I don’t have to travel to the gym to get my work out in.

Your schedule may be crazy during this holiday season (most of us have schedules like that) and you can’t find time to get to the gym or to a class that starts at the time your kids have school events.  It’s SO easy to squeeze a workout in at home if you have it ready to go. Rolling out of bed might be difficult on cold winter mornings but once you are out, you warm up, feel better, have more energy during the day and don’t interrupt your resolve to get fit just because it’s the holidays.  Life just doesn’t seem to slow down so you gotta find what’s easy and what you can be consistent at.

If you’re like me and do your exercise at home, you’re probably always looking for new at home workouts for women. Here are some of my favorites:

TURBOFIRE:  This is a kickboxing type workout with a little dance.  The choreography can be a little challenging for the first few days but once you get it, what a fun workout!  The music will get you pumped up before you et your shoes tied.

WARNING: this is not a good fitness program for you if you lack rhythm and coordination.  I’m not insulting you, you know who you are, and the truth is, you’ll never get these moves if you aren’t somewhat coordinated.  I wasn’t crazy about it the first week because I had to “count” my moves to stay on beat and I didn’t like that…….I wanted to zone out!  But within a week, I was there and ready to push it.  There are short HIIT workouts, longer cardio, toning, abs and stretching.  There’s a little of everything for the best results.  And if you’re not too enthused about the jumps, there’s a modifier to help those joints!

LES MILL’S PUMP:  You may have heard or participated in a Body Pump class at your gym.  This Beachbody program is THAT class in your own home.   It comes with a barbell and weights for a multi-rep, high energy, music motivating workout!  If you’re wanting to sculpt your body, this is the program for you.  It’s low impact so no worries if you have issues where you don’t want to be jumping!

T25:  I love working out with Shaun T – – – on the dvd as well as live (a nice perk for Beachbody coaches).  There’s just something about his laid back personality and focused motivation that keeps me in the game.  He doesn’t get distracting with a lot of nonsense talk, he’s all business pushing you to “dig deeper.”  This is a tough workout, high energy, fast paced with no breaks but it’s only 25 minutes AND there’s a modifier if you need to slow things down a bit.  I am an endorphin junky and this workout program is my drug!  It’s fast and a little overwhelming, standing then doing resistance work on the floor and back to your feet; you don’t have time to get bored!

PiYo – This program is just what the doctor ordered!  With upper and lower body toning, using our own body weight for resistance (no weights, no equipment, no jumps), cardio and flexibility moves will sculpt, burn fat and increase flexibility.  The results???  Long, lean, muscles, a high, firm booty, and tight, flat, sexy abs.   This program is unique in that it will help stretch out those muscles that are tight and inflamed from overuse.  Love it!

21 Day Fix – 30 minute workouts including cardio, weights and yoga and a nutrition plan to help you with portion control.  It’s easy, it’s effective and it’s fun.  It’s a no-brainer!

P90X3 – OK, you’ve heard of P90x, maybe you’ve even done it but gave up because it was such a large time commitment.  GOOD NEWS!  X3 is only 30 minutes and if you love Tony Horton, you will love this!  A wide variety of upper and lower body sculpting with weights, pushups and pull ups as well as fat burning cardio and a great  yoga workout.  30 minutes.  Yes, you have time!
